U.S. Soccer

An early Happy Thanksgiving to you all! Hopefully you are all able to take some time off next week to relax and spend quality time with friends, family and loved ones. Like many of you, our office will be closed next week on Thursday (11/28) and Friday (11/29) and will reopen with normal business hours December 2.

The November Membership Call to discuss the information in the newsletter and answer any additional questions you may have will be held on Thursday, November 21 at 1 p.m. CT. You can find call-in information here.

2019 U.S. Center for SafeSport Audit

In accordance with the Protecting Young Victims from Sexual Abuse and Safe Sport Authorization Act of 2017, the U.S. Center for SafeSport completes regular audits of the National Governing Bodies (NGBs) recognized by the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee.  The audit’s purpose is to “objectively evaluate adherence and level of compliance to the requirements set forth in the U.S. Center for SafeSport Code and the Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policies (hereinafter “the MAAPP”), including both the Education and Training Policy and the Required Prevention Policies. Additionally, the audit examined any areas of potential improvement or inconsistencies in order to propose corrective or proactive/improvement actions.”

In the interest of transparency, we are pleased to make its final audit report available for your review, and it is also publicly available on the Safe Soccer website.

Referee/Learning Center Updates

SafeSport Integration

On October 25, U.S. Soccer deployed its first native integration of SafeSport Training in the Learning Center. This deployment included matching 52,000 records to existing Learning Center Profiles and offering users an independent mechanism to connect their SafeSport Training Certificate to their profile. You can see the detailed instructions on how to link a SafeSport Certificate to a profile via this pdf. The Learning Center will track SafeSport like a license which includes notifying the user when they need to go in and complete the refresher course.

  • Training through the U.S. Center for SafeSport or the Learning Center:
    • Referees and coaches can access training via the Learning Center (under available courses) or through
    •  All other individuals (admins, volunteers, etc.) will continue through and the previously shared access code.
  • For the 17-year-old and expiring Referee users:
    • The system will prompt users when they need to take SafeSport or undergo a refresher course. For users turning 18-years-old, they will begin receiving notifications 6 months from their 18thbirthday. They will also receive emails 1 week from and on the day of their birthdate if they currently hold a license. They then have 10 days from their birthday to complete SafeSport training and will receive an email every day.
    • For someone who is SafeSport trained and their certificate is expiring: They will receive emails 30 days, seven days, two days and one day out from their expiration date.

Reports: Background Screening and SafeSport

Those assigned administrator rights in the Learning Center now have access to new reporting features, including SafeSport and Background Screening Status. These items will also be accessible for any platform that subscribes to the Learning Center API. Via the API, a platform can confirm license status, background screening status and SafeSport status by subscribing to the user’s USSF ID. Please contact Paul Anderson for additional questions about our technology implementation.

2020 AGM: Registration Deadline Approaching

We are less than 3 months away from the 2020 AGM in Nashville, and as of now, we have 35 members who have not yet signed up any delegates to attend. In the coming weeks, we will send out registration reports to each member, detailing who is registered and how many delegates and/or alternates are left, etc.

Registration is open until December 20, so you can register new delegates or change names of any existing registrations until then. From December 20 until January 6, registration will pause for the holidays, and will re-open with increased fees for all categories.

Additionally, we have started collecting passport-style photos (aka professional headshots) for all voting attendees (delegates, alternates, commissioners, etc.). An email has been sent to those who have already registered, and then for those who do register now, the confirmation email you receive will have the link to upload your photo. As we get closer to the event, we will continue to actively reach out to request these photos so that we can simplify ID checks to one check at the registration table for the entire event.
